Contestants in the abstract and non-narrative animation category have been selected!

The Abstract and Non-Narrative Animation category is unique to Anifilm and has been gaining increasing popularity at the festival. It provides an exceptional space for boundary-pushing forms of animation and, particularly in this year’s selection, connects the distant past of cinematography—emphasizing film materiality—with an audiovisual future shaped by artificial intelligence.

Among the 17 selected works, we find both admiration for digital visuality and a love for “analogue” aesthetics and the tactile quality of materials. In the cinemas of Liberec, you can immerse yourself in the rhythm of geometric variations as well as hypnotic tributes to nature.

The category also highlights the growing presence of North American animation in this field—Canada is represented by four films, while the USA contributes three. The selection includes renowned names such as Boris Labbé, Mykyta Lyskov, Nicolas Brault, or Gina Kamentsky.
