Vratislav Hlavatý: Happy Aeronaut of Czech Animation

Vratislav Hlavatý is a legend of Czech animation, graphic design and hot-air ballooning. As an artist with an unmistakable and distinctive style, he is responsible for the visual style of many films by Jiří Brdečka, Gene Deitch, Václav Bedřich, Jiří Tyller and Michaela Pavlátová. He also worked on many series, the most popular being his collaboration with director Jaroslava Havettová From the Diary of a Third-Grade Pupil or Edudant and Francimore. The public knows Hlavatý mainly for his work as an illustrator and a designer of film posters.

On the occasion of presenting its Lifetime Achievement Award to this renowned artist, Anifilm has prepared an exhibition focusing on his work. In addition to film artefacts such as original celluloids, sketches, drawings, illustrations and film posters, you can look forward to examples of Hlavatý’s paintings. The exhibition, hosted by the Liberec Regional Gallery, will run from the beginning of the festival to 10 August and if you have a festival pass, admission is free.
